Nominations will be closing soon for the 2021 Mandurah Sports Awards, a time to shine for home-grown sporting role models in the community.
Local sports players, clubs, volunteers and those behind the scenes can be nominated for these prestigious annual awards, which recognise and support Mandurah’s sporting stars.
With nominations closing on September 25, the City of Mandurah is encouraging all sporting clubs to nominate their best players and members, even if they have not been able to travel to win competitions this year.
The awards acknowledge achievement and excellence among the local sporting community, honouring sports people, volunteers and clubs who have a strong connection with, or are based in, Mandurah and have achieved success within their field.
Home-grown sporting champion Kathryn Norris (pictured) was awarded Sportsperson of the Year in 2020 not only because of her sporting accolades, but because of her years of dedication to the golfing community and also for her love of teaching the younger generation. She provides mentorship and support to upcoming juniors at various golf clubs within the Mandurah region.
Kathryn has played golf at a high level from a young age and at just 13, was selected for the WA Junior State Team.
She has represented WA in the women’s golf league in both 2016 and 2017, and nationally at Asia Pacific Junior 2016, Junior World Cup 2016 and the Trans-Tasman Cup 2016. Kathryn hit top form winning the Tasmania Women’s Amateur Golf Open in February 2020, one of her biggest achievements so far.
The winners across nine categories will be announced at a special awards ceremony at the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club on November 24. Olympic gymnast and Australian Ninja Warrior star Olivia Vivian will be the special guest speaker on the night.
